The Innovage Digital Photo KeychainThe Innovage Digital Photo Keychain is a little cheapo digital photo viewer that you can attach to your keychain! How fun! It originally retailed for $59.99 USD back in 2007 and ended up at my local goodwill for a whopping $3!!! So let's take a look at the device! Note! The device is made of a kind of cheap plastic. Yuck! But as you can see the device isn't too bad looking other than the fact it's scratched up and a fingerprint magnet. Anyways. The device consists of 3 Buttons (Power, Down, and Up), a Mini USB Type B port, a LED (green), and that hole on the top is for the keychain bit (which I removed... oops!) DisassemblyDisassembly of this device is pretty easy. The device is held together by one reeeeaalllyyy tiny Phillips Head screw. After removing that one screw it's going to be a pain to open (kind of) as there are plastic tabs keeping it together as well. I used a guitar pick for this part and after I got it open you don't need to disassemble anything else. The InsideThis is the rear of the board! This is what you will first see (well. After moving the battery... Which I also removed as it was swelling). The first thing to note is the obvious. The blob of black epoxy resin sitting in the middle of the board. Underneath that epoxy resin is a Sitronix ST2205U SoC which is a 65CE02 Based System on a Chip with 32KB of Integrated RAM. Accompanying the ST2205U is a Macronix 29LV081TG-90 Flash Storage chip. This chip holds 8Mbits of data (1MByte). Which means the original packaging didn't lie when it said 8Mb. The front of the board leaves much to be desired. But it does show us the LCD panel and the fact the backlight has a seperate pin area! Both sides of the board blended together using GIMP The SoftwareThis device has it's own software. Albeit the software is rather... Cheap looking. Sadly it doesn't work on Windows 10 and doesn't function on Wine either (Note! Tested using Debian Linux 10.7 and Ubuntu 20.10) but did run just fine on my Windows XP laptop. The UI doesn't look too impressive The photo on the 2nd row on the right is my good friend VeryDragons But it gets the job done. When you press F12 a window comes up telling you your devices Firmware Version and Revision But the software knows when you have the device plugged in and in USB Update mode. When it knows you aren't in that mode it displays the following error But the program recognizes PNG, JPG, BMP, and GIF files with a rule that GIF files do not playback their animation. All formats and images are cropped down to 128x128 and is converted to the BMP format. What Else...On Linux using lsusb you get the following ID 1403:0001 Sitronix Digital Photo Frame Which shows that it is indeed a Sitronix based chipset. But thankfully someone made a custom firmware sort of deal for this thing... Sadly the links I could find are dead. Oops. But the device only shows the ID after you select the USB Update mode from the menu. DownloadsThe Photo Viewer Software CD ISO Thanks for reading! |
